Car & Motorhome
Nowhere else on earth is more suited to a touring holiday by car or motorhome than New Zealand. There are only a few motorways, with most roads remaining relatively deserted, and everyone drives on the left. State Highway 1 takes you from the furthest point north to the furthest point south, with other State Highways branching off to major points across the country. Motorhomes offer the ultimate touring holiday freedom and flexibility - Go where you want, when you want, spend the night on a deserted beach or stay in one of New Zealand's 300 top quality campsites.
Getting lost is difficult, driving distances are short, the scenery is stunning and the people couldn't be more friendly or helpful. Petrol stations are plentiful and accept major international credit cards. Unleaded petrol costs around NZ$1.50 and diesel NZ$1.00 per litre. Maximum speed limits in towns and cities are 30 mph and 60 mph on the open road.
