Memorable Mother’s Day
With Mother’s Day just around the corner here in the UK, we know finding the right gift can be a daunting challenge. With this in mind, we’ve decided to share some of our favourite things to do in the beautiful country of New Zealand, so that you can enjoy all that it has to offer and create fantastic memories with your mother.
Indeed, the country of New Zealand is steeped in mystery and Maori magic, which gives it some of the world’s most beautiful sights and awe inspiring destinations.
If you visit New Zealand, the chances are you’ll never be too far from a geothermal hot spring. The North Island of New Zealand is laden with volcanos, and these hot springs are a pleasant side effect of all the subterranean angst. Hanmer Springs in the South Island, and Rotorua in the North are home to some of the most beautiful thermal pools. We’ve found these hot springs to be the perfect place to relax and unwind, with the natural springs carrying with them minerals and other healing qualities.
Indeed, it is believed that these hot springs can help with joint pain and muscle fatigue. The silica that these hot springs possess is also known for its abilities to aid with irritable skin conditions such as eczema and is even believed to boost the collagen in your skin, giving you a beautiful, healthy glow.
Visit the Moeraki Boulders
The mystery surrounding this rock formation is still unexplained, with the sheer size and weight only adding to their enigmatic presence. Scientists claim that the Moeraki boulders were formed around 65 million years ago due to muddy sediments slowing forming and shaping these beautiful landmarks.
However, according to Maori legend these boulders are gourds that were washed up from the voyaging canoe, Araiteuru, when it was wrecked on New Zealand’s shores hundreds of years ago.
These large and spherical boulders are located along a stretch of Koekohe Beach, on the Otago coast of New Zealand. It is an easy and very scenic drive on State Highway 1, from north or south, and definitely makes our list of must see destinations in New Zealand!
If you and your mum are looking for some adventure, the Waitomo Caves are known for their extensive underground cave system. Hidden under the tranquil hills of Waitomo lies this labyrinth of caves and underground rivers, creating one of New Zealand’s most inspiring natural wonders.
With 30 million years of underground streams pushing and sculpting the soft limestone, many of these caves have amazing stalactites growing down from the ceiling and stalagmites growing up from the cave floor.
This subterranean wonderland is also home to its very own glowworm caves that you can explore on foot or abseil down. There are walking guides who can take you through these caves, and even boating tours for the more adventurous! The local town is the perfect place to relax after the excitement and offers plenty of long, meandering walks to take in the scenery from above ground! With all of this to offer, it’s no wonder this destination has made it to our list.

This carefully excavated site is perfect for those who enjoy talking leisurely walks steeped in history, while finding out what lies beneath the aftermath of rubble and mud.
With its 12-acre grounds to explore it offers the opportunity to explore these lands together. From its mesmerising waterfalls to its plunging valleys, we think it’s one of New Zealand’s must-see destinations!
