Otago Peninsula Wildlife Tour with Penguin Place

Half Day

Price from £71 per person

A Monarch Wildlife Cruises vehicle will pick you up from your hotel for your transfer to Wellers Rock Wharf, Otago Peninsula, the departure point of your tour.  This transfer also doubles as a scenic bus tour of the beautiful Otago Peninsula. Board your Monarch Wildlife Cruises vessel M.V. Monarch to commence a half day Otago Peninsula Wildlife Tour with Penguin Place. M.V. Monarch is a 16.5 metre diesel-propelled sail boat with a top speed of 9 knots. Cruise the length of the beautiful Otago Harbour and experience unrivalled viewing of the exciting diversity of wildlife which abounds on spectacular Taiaroa Head; the only mainland nesting place for Northern Royal Albatross in the world, and home to NZ Fur Seals and eight other nesting bird species. You may also see dolphins, sea lions and a fascinating array of rarely seen ocean birds including other species of albatross, penguins and marine mammals in their natural environment. After your cruise, enjoy a guided tour of the Yellow Eyed Penguin Reserve to see the rarest penguin in the world, found only on the south-east coast of New Zealand. A short bus trip over the farm takes small groups on to the reserve where a knowledgeable guide will lead participants on foot through a unique system of covered trenches into viewing hides. These hides allow access to the living areas and breeding grounds of this shy penguin, which provides the opportunity to witness and photograph undisturbed activity at extremely close range.
