MALENY - The unique rural community of Maleny is perched high above the Sunshine Coast beaches on the Blackall Range between Brisbane and Noosa and also overlooks South-East Queensland's amazing Glasshouse Mountains. It is an area of spectacular views and stands of lush rain forest. Maleny was initially a timber region with virtually all of the Cedar, Beech & Hoop Pine being felled to provide furniture and construction timber for SE Queensland and the UK. Once clearing had been achieved it quickly became a dairy farming area and supported the surrounding areas for many years with all their milk-based products. Maleny is now better known for its tourist activities and its diverse population! The area is a craft paradise and is home to many nationally recognised artists and art galleries. It is also an area of extreme interest to the eco-tourist.

OVERNIGHT: Spicers Tamarind Retreat, Maleny (2 nights)

DAY 2 SUNSHINE COAST HINTERLAND (NM)

Full day at your leisure in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland to explore the area. Maybe visit the towns of Montville and Mapleton both of which are tourist attractions in their own right!

MONTVILLE was first settled in 1887 and is today known by some as the creative heart of the Sunshine Coast. This charming village perched on the Blackall Range is home to a range of quality art galleries that exhibit, and sometimes produce, works of great interest to all art lovers. Shoppers also love the many craft shops, fashion boutiques and gift shops that exhibit a staggering range of affordable, locally made items. Close to Montville is the Kondalilla National Park. Kondalilla is aboriginal for 'rushing waters' and is home to scenic walks and spectacular waterfalls. It is ideal for a picnic, a swim, or just to escape into the cool rainforest.

DAY 3 MALENY – MOOLOOLABA (NM)

Mooloolaba continues to boast one of the coast's best beaches, with its north-east aspect ensuring protection from the elements. The gourmet scene is world class; ingredients are fresh from the farms and ocean. Noosa's Main Beach is one of the few north-facing beaches in Australia. Calm conditions make it a great spot for families and those learning to surf. The area's rare natural beauty and sustainable approach earned recognition by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as an official Biosphere Reserve. And nature is only a short stroll away from the beach at Noosa National Park which is abundant with Australian native wildlife such as koalas, goannas and bush turkeys. This can be appreciated by following the Heritage Walk, which takes in 28 historic buildings in the central business district.
